CoEIA Hosts Prof. Joel J. P. C. Rodrigues at King Saud University
CoEIA hosted Prof. Joel Rodrigues from 25 to 28 February 2019. During his visit he gave a keynote and a distinguished lecture, and met graduate students and researchers.
The visit of Distinguished Professor Joel J. P. C. Rodrigues was hosted by the Center of Excellence in Information Assurance (CoEIA), King Saud University (KSU), from 20 to 23 Jumada al-Thani 1440 H (25 to 28 February 2019). He was welcomed by CoEIA Director Dr. Jalal Al-Muhtadi and the CoEIA team, and delivered a keynote titled "Challenges and Perspectives for the Internet of Things" at the CoEIA workshop on "Cybersecurity R&D Grand Challenges in the Kingdom", sponsored by the International Scientific Partnership Program (ISPP) of the KSU Deanship of Scientific Research (DSR). He then met graduate students and researchers to discuss their work and guide them toward their goals.
On 27 February 2019, Prof. Rodrigues delivered a distinguished lecture on "Internet of Things and Mobile Technologies for eHealth" at the College of Computer and Information Sciences (CCIS), KSU. Both lectures presented the latest technologies, research challenges and possible solutions. On the same day, Prof. Rodrigues, Dr. Jalal Al-Muhtadi and Dr. Kashif Saleem visited the Dean of Scientific Research, Prof. Khalid Alhumaizi. Prof. Rodrigues expressed his appreciation for the ISPP program, and the meeting discussed ways to strengthen and continue collaboration in line with Saudi Vision 2030. At the end of the meeting, Prof. Alhumaizi presented him with an award in recognition of his scientific contributions.
Prof. Rodrigues is a professor at the National Institute of Telecommunications (Inatel), Brazil, a senior researcher at the Instituto de Telecomunicações, Portugal, and a visiting professor at King Saud University under the ISPP program.
He leads the Internet of Things research group (CNPq), and serves as Director for Conference Development on the IEEE ComSoc Board of Governors, IEEE Distinguished Lecturer, Technical Activities Committee Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Latin America Region Board, and President of the scientific council at ParkUrbis, Covilhã Science and Technology Park. He is editor-in-chief of the International Journal on E-Health and Medical Communications and an editorial board member of several highly reputed journals, and has been General Chair and TPC Chair of many international conferences, including IEEE ICC, IEEE GLOBECOM, IEEE HEALTHCOM and IEEE LatinCom. He has authored or coauthored more than 500 papers in refereed international journals and conferences, 3 books and 2 patents, and has received several Outstanding Leadership and Outstanding Service Awards from the IEEE Communications Society as well as best paper awards.
