# CoEIA Keynote at the IEEE International Conference on Computer and Information Sciences

Under the patronage of HRH Prince Faisal bin Nawaf bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Jouf Province, the IEEE International Conference on Computer and Information Sciences took place at Jouf University on 3 and 4 April 2019\. The conference brought together local and international researchers and practitioners from academia and industry, covering cybersecurity, AI and machine learning, blockchain, cloud computing, IoT, soft computing, and computer networks and communications.

The conference was inaugurated by HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Fahd bin Turki bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Al-Jouf Province, in the presence of dignitaries including Prof. Ismail Al-Bishri, Rector of Jouf University, Prof. Najm Al-Hosiny, Vice Rector for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, and Dr. Madallah Alruwaili, Dean of the College of Computer and Information Sciences.

Prof. Muhammad Khurram Khan from the Center of Excellence in Information Assurance at King Saud University was invited as a keynote speaker and spoke on “Smart Cities Cybersecurity: Key Challenges and Solutions”. He discussed the main cybersecurity challenges facing modern connected smart cities, a market expected to exceed USD 2 trillion by 2025, and explained how ubiquitous connectivity creates risks that could put entire city operations and residents' lives in jeopardy.

He also highlighted technological, economic and social issues that smart cities must address, presented some of his research contributions on smart-city security and privacy, and outlined open research challenges and future directions.

Other keynote speakers included Prof. David Keyes (KAUST), Prof. Omar M. Al-Jarrah (Arab Open University, Kuwait), Prof. Amir Hussain (Edinburgh Napier University, UK), Prof. Jamil Ahmed, Prof. Muhammad Sarfaraz (Kuwait University) and Prof. Mohamed-Slim Alouini (KAUST). The event was attended by a large number of students, researchers, professionals and faculty members.
